Commander Carey Slade has been volunteering with DAV East Valley Chapter 8 since July 2014, she has served on the finance committee until she was appointed as the Adjutant in February 2015. While serving as the chapters Adjutant she was also appointed by DAV Dept of Arizona to be the Women Veterans Outreach Coordinator which she is currently still serving in this role; Carey served as Northern District Adjutant FY 2016-17 and FY 2017-2018 .  This is Carey’s second year as Chapter 8’s Commander.

Carey was a Builder 2nd Class (E-5) in the US Navy Seabee’s, when she was honorably but medically discharged where she proudly served for almost 5 years.  Carey completed her Builder “A” School training in Gulf Port MS graduating with honors.  She went on to be stationed in NAF Atsugi, Japan Public Works for three years, were she received letters of appreciation and awards for a job’s well done . While stationed at NAF Atsugi; she attended training for the Honey Well computer system being installed at transportation and assisted in computerizing  the base fleet of vehicles maintenance schedule along with her regular duties as a Builder.  Carey’s next duty station was Point Loma Submarine Base, Public Works in San Diego CA. where she also volunteered for the Auxiliary Security Force attending training monthly, also was a volunteer for the V.I.T.A. program assisting military personnel with the taxes, along with her regular duties in the Public Works department.  While serving she was awarded her Good Conduct Medal and 3 Sea Service ribbons.

After her honorable but medical discharge; she went on to work at BofA Credit Card Fraud Unit where she excelled at stopping fraud at the point of sale.  She also has been writing and playing music for over 30 years and has released 3 solo CD’s and 3 full band CD’s.

Carey has always excelled at what ever is put in front of her; with her “Can Do” attitude and attention to detail, she is well suited for the position of Commander.
