HAPPY NEW YEAR
As we bring in the new, it is time to reflect on the past year of accomplishments, volunteerism, and Americanism. For the past six months, we have worked hard in transforming East Valley Chapter 8 into a whole new beginning. Our goal once I took office as your Commander, I had a mission; that mission has begun, and I am truly pleased with the results. Henceforth, this has been accomplished with members of this chapter who has stepped up in the process. Make no mistake; I could not have achieved this without the help and volunteerism from the members and non-members of this excellent chapter. I take pride in every aspect with respect to all members, veterans and their families and survivors of the fallen.
The chapter has been involved with community events which include but not limited to: Memorial Day event at the City of Mesa Cemetery; memorial day/ Veterans appreciation conducted by Congressman Matt Salmon; celebration of freedom (4th of July) in Mesa; Constitution week in Gilbert; Military Days at the Center for Arts in Chandler; Pearl Harbor remembrance at Mesa Market Place with DAV Northern District Commander Doug Dau as the guest speaker in partner with the Arizona stand-down; Pearl Harbor Days at the Wesley Bolin Complex near the state capital laying of wreaths with our very own Unit 8; attending Crossroads of the West gun shows and Apache Trails swap meet for our on-going gun raffle; and Phoenix Suns Veterans appreciation day.
The on-going effort of recruiting new members into our chapter, as well as family members into our auxiliary, continues to be non-stop. My focus is to bring in new members young and old, men and women of all walks of life. My goal for the coming year is to grow this chapter into the largest in the state. In addition, while improving this chapter, it is my goal to expand our current building so that we able to provide more functions and accommodations for our members.
In closing, I challenge each and every member of this outstanding chapter to recruit new members, young and old, men and women to our chapter. Let’s continue marching forward and build this chapter with pride and dignity.
